About the Course

This is the third course in the Google Data Analytics Certificate. As you continue to build on your understanding of the topics from the first two courses, you’ll be introduced to new topics that will help you gain practical data analytics skills. You’ll learn how to use tools like spreadsheets and SQL to extract and make use of the right data for your objectives, and how to organize and protect your data. Current Google data analysts will continue to instruct and provide you with hands-on ways to accomplish common data analyst tasks with the best tools and resources. Learners who complete this certificate program will be equipped to apply for introductory-level jobs as data analysts. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, learners will: - Find out how analysts decide what data to collect for analysis. - Learn about structured and unstructured data, data types, and data formats. - Discover how to identify different types of bias in data to help ensure data credibility. - Explore how analysts use spreadsheets and SQL within databases and data sets. - Examine open data and the relationship between, and importance of, data ethics and data privacy. - Gain an understanding of how to access databases and extract, filter, and sort the data they contain. - Learn best practices for organizing data and keeping it secure....

Thank you for the course! It's a nice introduction to SQL and Google Big Query as well as the concepts of data privacy and security. The course also offers some great tips for professional networking.

The lessons were easy to follow through and the explanantions were easy to understand. The hands-on practices also helped improve hands-on skills with the data analysis tools introduced in this course

By now I can recognize the pattern this course follows: we start with one or two more general questions about data analytics and work in general, then there's one more intense technical module, and one or two easier modules as an outro.

For the technical stuff, so far I think that to really learn SQL or spreadsheet formulas you have to learn elsewhere. This course can only serve as a reference guide. It is actually quite annoying how in some lessons they treat you as if you've never seen a spreadsheet before, and in others, they plunge you into formulas without ever explaining anything.

I also didn't appreciate the silly stuff that sounded like Barbie Career bedtime stories, all the "Data Analysts name folders this way, Data Analysts back up their work". Like, really, literally everyone that works on a computer does those things. I guess this is just stuff meant for high school or college students taking this course, but it's pretty annoying to anyone else ;)

Also, the course challenges have been disappointing so far. I'm downloading the tables, reading the PDFs etc, only to see super basic questions that don't even require me to do anything with the material. Le sigh.

On the other hand, I enjoyed working with BigQuery, even despite the fact that the UI seems to have changed a lot, and many of the datasets referenced are not available anymore. With some troubleshooting, you'll be able to get around those issues. But I do wish that the discussion boards on Coursera were actually functional and helpful, and that the course had an active TA.

So far, I am not sure about the job readiness claim. I am actually starting from zero here and I don't think anyone would hire me as a Data Analyst just because I have the certificate.

All in all, I like parts of this course and found the instructor very nice to listen to.

This course definitely took a bit more time and effort to complete. I found myself confused a lot of the time, and needed to find external sources and videos to help me get through some of the assignments. I find the "Self-reflection" assignments to be unhelpful and a bit of a waste. The section covering BigQuery was wildly confusing. I spent such a long time just following the video just trying to navigate BigQuery, and after an hour and a half, I got frustrated and stopped for the day. The next day, I watched a short BigQuery walkthrough video on YouTube, and was able to complete the assignments relatively easily. I definitely think there are some things in this course that need to be updated. I also wish that some of the information was also put into "reading" sections instead of having most of the content in video format. It makes it a lot more difficult to go back and reference information I may have missed when taking notes.

I had trouble using BigQuery I tried contacting Coursera for help but they could not since they were not tough on how to handle issues with BigQuery. My Issue was that when I was suppose to type the syntax command and hit "run" I would get an error message stating that "big_cities was not found in the US". I follow along anyway but I couldn't do the hands on portion of the BigQuery activity. So I tried using the forums to help with the BigQuery but I found little help there as well. A gave it a 3 star review since the course is very imformative but when it came to a technical issue with in the course help was minimal. I would like the creators to improve this since I could not solve my the technical issues with the BigQuery.

I feel like this course flip flops too much between different subjects. While we do dive into some SQL, there's a Kaggle account that's created in one of the modules as well. It doesn't get used, the use of BigQuery is fine but the approach is cumbersome. There's lots of alternative ways of doing it, they could have just have a lab area set up already. Feels sleezy to have to sign up with our credit card info after the free trail period ends. Some of the material was outdated as well as I pulled in datasets that didn't exist or was altered. My module got reset during the update so I had to redo some of them again even after passing the weekly quiz. So three stars for me just for that reset.

The course is very confusing, especially in its structure. A lot of things are also outdated (especially regarding the programs like BigQuery and Kaggle). Yes, there were text comments but mostly they just inform you that a feature is not available anymore, but does not instruct you the new updates. So basically, they're only saying that the UI is outdated, but does not provide solution/information about the new update. I think it would be better to regularly check and update (even yearly) because as you taught in this course, data should be current. But overall, I did learn but this course definitely needs improvement. Thank you.

This was so informative! I learned a lot. However the 3rd module on learning BigQuery sandbox needs updated. It is mentioned that we should be able to adapt as the interfaces change in BigQuery, but when you are brand new this is not possible. The introduction to BigQuery needs to be current until someone learns the very basics. BigQuery sandbox has its own tutorial that is so helpful. If this class wants to stay relevant they should guide students to use the tutorial in BigQuery sandbox that is being updated as the interface changes instead of updating the hands on learning all the time because that is clearly not sustainable.

I am still not happy with a few things!! #1 I found it difficult to follow some parts of this course because they where outdated!! so I could not follow what was being shown. #2 Still don't know how to use SQL and Databases plus many of the new ones that have been shown, it fills good that I am passing but I am worried that I am so far behind in all the stages that I want to be so, so good at. #3 There is still no live chat, this is so important when one needs help as they are doing this course

The vocab was fine, and the conceptual and descriptive info was fine. The main issue I had was working with the updated database and sql applications through BigQuery did not match up, and some information was not fully filled in to explain what/how to fill in tables through spreadsheets and how to format it for course usage. To me, it felt very unintuitive regarding the move from spreadsheets to importing public datasets and deciphering that info (again, at least through bigqueary).

I enjoyed this course and the instructor did a good job explaining everything. However, I found it really difficult to follow along Module 3 in this course because the instructions in the video did not match the interface. I was able to figure it out myself, but it took a while and I nearly lost my motivation to continue when I thought I couldn't figure it out. I personally think I didn't learn how to use BigQuery enough yet.

Week 3 was the only one that really had any substance to it for newbies. On one or two exercises, there were instances where the SQL queries didn't work when I typed them in UNLESS they were without backticks or copy/pasted from the answer sheet, which was confusing. A lot of this felt like common sense or concepts that didn't need entire videos to explain, such as the right way to name a file.

Introducing google cloud as a service, with the need to activate the trial priod during the coarse with a fraction of the cpapilities available used, totally distracts some users from focusing on the data analytics approach with the cloud trial time.

I highly suggest either use the freely available tools or enable student accounts on google cloud for the purpose of data analytics study only.

Overall I'm satisfied with the course material. The short lectures are well done and concise. I also appreciate the number of external resources that are provided to pursue more. That said, I felt the exercises were lacking. They seemed oversimplified and just another box to check. Personally, I found the feedback on wrong answers in the quizzes to be of more benefit than the exercises.

If you have used computers for a long period of time, this section will likely bore you a lot because it tackles many basic things you likely have already done before. Like using folders, sub-folders, and intelligent naming conventions. The last two weeks were incredibly boring to me, and I got through all of that and the course challenge in a couple hours.

Instructor spoke too quickly in videos. Also, it was not made clear in the Foundations class that we would need to know more SQL commands outside of FROM, WHERE, and SELECT that were needed for this course. I thought that the section on SQL in this course was going to expand on learning more than those three commands during the course and not outside of it.

The course was terrific. However, I did have trouble with a few labs. The problem made me grow and learn at the same time. It is stressful when you want to complete a lab and something goes wrong along the way. This course has been amazing so far and thank you for give people a chance to learn something that will help them in the future.

The course was good but it needs improvement especially in formatting there were many errors. The 0program also needs some better instructors although most of the instructors were good there was at least one that was unacceptable. Overall it was a good course with lots of compressed information.

Decent intro but a lot of the application-specific instructions were outdated. For example, you'll need to explore BigQuery a bit to understand what the lesson is asking you to do and won't be able to follow the step by step instructions exactly.

The remoting into another virtual computer that was not a great experience to say the least. there was a lot of glitch's if that was to be improved upon would be great especially if we dont have to remote into another computer would be great

While this was a learning course, it was in my opinion harder to follow along due to the instructors lack of personality. Compared to the others it was very obvious she was reading of a teleprompter, and it was hard to stay engaged.

It's not cool that I had to take this course again, it was different, however, I was on my 4th week and now I am on my 4th week again. I am paying for this out of pocket and do not have a large budget. Is this going to happen again?
