So here, we have a set of perfect answers. And even though they are a bit ludicrous to think that one idea's going to be perfect on them. It's good to keep that in mind, and be thinking, what are the perfect answers for ideas that you're going to be bringing into your innovation system? So now we really have the framework for the, the basic Idea Filter template. So here it is. And we're going to work through next how you customize it for your innovation. But you see on the left-hand side, these perfect answers. So here's the perfect answer for each of these dimensions. We have a weight column, we're going to figure out importance here. We're going to talk about how you actually rate the scores on each factor. Very important part. And then we have a score here which is really just the weight, times the rating, it's going to you a little score for each factor. Add those up, and we're going to get a total score for the idea, for each of the ideas that you're looking at. And then down here, this is really just talking about a comparison to other ideas, and helping give a little bit of guidance on whether this idea ought to continue or not. So that's the hurdle that we'll talk about. Last. So how do we customize your innovation filter? Well here are the steps. First of all, you start with the template that I just showed you. And the first step that you do is you consider those factors. There's 16 factors on the starting point template. Maybe you think there outta be 12, maybe you think there outta be 20. I would give these cautions however. First of all, if your filter gets too big, it becomes a little cumbersome. And a, a little, a little it's becomes a little unwieldy. Maybe a little too beaurocratic. As you look at some of the, the research out there, you look at different filtering systems, you'll find anything from a couple of, a couple of factors to 40 or 50 factors to be considered. If you look at the textbooks and the business plan writing books, things like that. My own advise is, is really, a balancing act right, so I, I think 16 is a good starting point, it's not the perfect number. You might want to adjust those, but don't go too much more or too much less. Second, if you want to add in a factor. You really think that some of these other factors are really important and, and teams I've worked with in the past have come up with some of these things. Right, they think well, I think we really need even a fifth category, or, or we need a, a couple of more factors that we really want to add in that don't cover this. You, you could that with your, with your filter. I would just caution you to first look at thow they might fit in underneath one of the existing factors or maybe that factor's perfect answer can be adjust a little so that it makes more sense to you. Obviously there is all kinds of other questions and answers and things that need to be looked into that can be built into. To bringing technology commercial, commercialization forward. But, here, we're just looking at a guiding template. Right? That's just steering you through a bunch of ideas. So, be careful not to get too carried away with the number of factors that you're adding in. Mentioned about, maybe tweaking the wording. Now, that is more common when a team goes through this in setting up their framework. That the answers I gave here are really a starting point. And as you, as you dig in to your innovation filter and you find out that some of the, some of these answers don't make sense not quite how they're worded. So you want to change the wording. Go back to the root of where the answer originated. Right? We, we answered the perfect answer to a question. We ask that question because we know that technology commercialization is stunted in that, in that region. And we talked a little about the, the aspects of that question and why that question originated. So as you tweak the wording go back to the root cause. And keep that in mind. You're trying to steer yourself through a series of, of problems that technology commercialization is known to have. The, the wording here, I would also point out, is mostly oriented, these perfect answers, they're mostly oriented towards scalable, investable technology commercialization. So, these would align most if your innovation creed is that you're trying to build a large new business unit, for example, or you want to go big or go, go, go home, with a large, a large ability to, to make a scalable business that's going to run for, for a while. If your innovation creed is different, more towards lifestyle or something like that. Just a product, one little product launch. You will probably take more issue with these answers and you're going to want to tweak them a little more. The third step is to. Consider the weight. Now, we've spent a lot of time saying all of these 16 factors are important. They are all important, and they should all be considered. However, which ones are most important? Out of all these that are tied for first place, which one's in first first-place? So, start with the weights all at 100%. They're all 100% and then pick three or four, maybe six at the most that you think are most important. Put those up to 150% find three or four or maybe six that are the least important and put those down to 50% in weight. So what that saying is the, the answer. Is really not that, it's not as important as some of the answers to the other questions.
